AMDG is short for the Latin prayer, "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam," which means, "for the Greater Glory of God." This is a reminder to us that no matter where we are in life, everything we do can be a gift to God to bring Him glory. This includes every great work, every act of love, every sacrifice, and every mundane or tedious task. It can all be done in prayer as a gift to God.
It is also a reminder of Colossians 3:23: "Whatsoever you do, do it from the heart, as to the Lord, and not to men."
